The Convict 100, one of Australia’s longest running and most loved cross-country mountain biking events is on the horizon. In three months over 1,000 riders will descend onto the sleepy village of St Albans as it becomes the centre of the mountain biking scene for the first weekend in May.
In 2025 riders have the option of three distances (48km, 67km & 100km) sticking with the routes you loved last year. e-MTBs are welcome in all distances, as are those brave enough to tackle the course on a gravel/cyclocross or single speed bike. There are even dedicated categories for those riders in both the 67km and the 100km events.
The challenge of the Convict trails remain: untamed and ungroomed. It’s a journey out into the wilderness and away from civilisation, with views opening up across the Australian bush as you climb. Following the ridge tops, the trail rises and falls along the historic Convict Trail and Old Great North Road. A big descent back to the valley floor as you return to St Albans, cheered on by local volunteer firies.
As you finally make your way through the finish arch, a well-earned finishers medal around your neck, and an ice-cold beer at the third oldest pub in Australia in your hand you won’t be able to wipe the smile from your face. Now that is a race finish!
