COURSE DESCRIPTION

UPDATED FOR 2024.

The 67km riders leave St Albans heading north, at a more reasonable hour than the 100km riders! The first 12km is nice, flat and easy, the perfect opportunity to find your pace and your place in the crowd. At the 12km mark that all changes as you turn away from the valley floor and head for the hills. The climb up Browns Trail starts steep, knuckle down and grind your way up. There is a false flat before it kicks up again, as with all great climbs, it is steepest at the top. The first Aid Station at the top will be a welcome sight. Ignore the signs pointing along the 48km course, you are only just getting started.

After stocking up on supplies and rolling down what is known as Sullivans Arm you turn right, onto a long untamed and remote stretch of the Old Great North Rd as you head South. Welcome to the Convict 100! After what can seem a lifetime you know some ‘relief’ is waiting as you pop back out at a five way junction. From here it is downhill, past the remnants of Claire’s Bridge, historic Ten Mile Hollow and past the Wat Buddha Dhamma retreat. The fire trail is wide and smooth, it’s a good thing too as you now have a climb up to the second (and your last) Aid Station at the top of the Eight Mile track. The end is in sight!

The Eight Mile track is little used so take care down the hill, especially after you pass the Private Property sign. Once you hit the bottom keep those wheels moving and keep an eye out for any rogue camels (and no we aren’t joking!) At the end of the farm road where it joins Settlers Rd turn right and pin those ears back on the race for the finish line. In no time you will be hitting the finish to the roars of the MC, a hard-earned finishers medal and perhaps a cheeky beverage from the Settlers Arms, a smile creeping across your face from a job well done!
