We are pumped to announce that the Convict 100 will be returning to its regular course on the 6th May 2023! St Albans and the surrounding area has amazingly bounced back after extreme weather in 2022, which led to the region experiencing significant flooding twice in the space of 8 months. Extensive damage to the community, roads and trails was caused as a result however thanks to the hard work and support of NPWS, Hawkesbury City Council, the local community and some drier weather, St Albans is back! The trails have been repaired and are in great condition ready for the first weekend in May which means we are likely to expect some record setting times come event day.
We are sure you will be as excited as we are to tackle all of the Convict 100 course highlights: the climb up Jacks Track, Womerah Range, Shepherds Gully, both sections of the Old Great North Rd, Sullivans Arm and Blue Hill. And all riders will get to experience the thrill of the infamous kayak bridge! All distances will be one continuous loop, no repeating the same section of course, no contra-flow. Each course will be a journey from valley floor to ridge top and back again, along trails that are seldom used but offer such good riding. Old Great North Rd we are looking at you!
If you plan to train on course in the lead up to the event please pay attention to the areas marked as Private Property on the maps. These trails are only accessible via special permissions on race day and we ask you to avoid these areas when training.
Due to some lingering flood damage at the first river crossing, the route directly out of St Albans at the very start of the event might need to be tweaked but we are working to resolve this last little section. You might even get lucky and avoid the early wet feet – we will keep you updated of any changes.
With well over a thousand riders already signed up we are looking at a bumper field for 2023. After missing out in 2022 we know you are all keen to get out on the trails and catch up with old (and new) friends. Check out the rider list below to see who has signed up already. If you haven’t signed up and were waiting for an excuse – this news should get you moving and putting some training into the legs!
Three course distances (44km, 68km and 100km) are on offer so there is something to suit all riders and all abilities. The camping experience will be the same as always and the comradery will be high as the Convict returns in 2023. The riding will be exhilarating, the laughs will abound, and St Albans will come alive with over 1,000 riders in town for the weekend.
