There are big race days… and then there are Convict 100 race days!

The annual outbreak of MTB fever swept through St Albans this past weekend. This year marked the 20th year of the Convict 100 and you showed up to celebrate. Thank you for being part of it!

Perfect weather, trails in cracking condition, and a start line buzzing with energy. From the first pedal stroke to the final roll across the finish line with a grin (or a grimace), it was an unforgettable day on the bike.

Moments That Made the Day

Because Convict is all about the stories you’ll be telling (and exaggerating) for years.

• 86 women took to the trails this year. That number keeps climbing and we love to celebrate it!
• 11 absolute legends in the 100 km said “yeah, no worries” to carrying bags of Tailwind between Aid Station 1 and 2 to make sure an ‘accounting error’ was overcome and the much-needed Tailwind was where it was needed most. Above and beyond doesn’t even cover it, thank you to those riders!
• The 48 km race brought the heat, with some seriously young riders tearing it up. And that pedal-to-pedal sprint finish to be the first rider home? Pure chaos. Pure brilliance. One second between them – look for it in the results!
• We also had a strong showing from our favourite group, the repeat offenders. Convict continues to have one of the highest return rates across our events, at 55%. Is it proof that you all secretly love a good climb? Statistically significant…maybe, at the very least, mildly concerning.

And to everyone who discovered the Convict trails for the first time, welcome! It might not get easier but it is always a blast!

Male: Jason English (breaking a 10-year drought upon the top step and a streak of near misses, his new hip must be working!)
Female: Lana Moy (and becoming the first female “Tonne of Dirt” rider, clocking an eye-watering 1068km at Convict over the years. That’s not just commitment, that’s a long-term relationship with pain. An absolute legend!)

67 km
Male: Scott Reynolds (completing a hat-trick of titles in the 67km course)
Female: Becky Mates (straight back to the top step after an absence of a few years)

48 km
Male: Miles Stidoph (A smashing time of 1:58:27 from an outstanding your rider)
Female: Sylvia Dagg (Another smashing time of 1:58:28 from another outstanding young rider)
